Feedback & Comments

When users post comments on our platform, the data shown in the comment section, alongside the user’s IP address and browser details, are gathered to counteract spam.

A scrambled version of your email (termed a hash) might be sent to Gravatar to verify its usage. Once your comment gets approved, your profile picture becomes publicly visible associated with your comment.

Uploaded Content

For registered members uploading pictures, it’s advised not to include images with location-based EXIF data. Website visitors have the capability to download and access the full location details from these images.

Cookies

Commenting on the site offers an option to remember your name, email, and website in cookies for a smoother experience in future comments. These cookies are valid for a year.

Upon accessing the sign-in page, a short-term cookie ensures your browser’s compatibility with cookies. This doesn’t store any private details and gets removed once the browser session ends.

Logging in activates several cookies that retain your login details and visual preference. These cookies for login are valid for two days, while display preferences last a year. If you opt for “Remember Me”, the login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

Editing or posting an article results in an extra cookie in your browser, referring to the recently modified article’s ID, expiring in a day.

External Content

Our articles might feature external content like videos, images, or other articles. Interacting with this content is akin to visiting the source website.

Such websites might gather data about you, use cookies, integrate third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you’re logged into that website.

Data Sharing

In case of a password reset, the email will contain your IP address.

Data Retention Duration

Comments, along with their content and metadata, are kept indefinitely. This ensures that any follow-up comments can be automatically recognized and approved without individual moderation.

For members of our site, we preserve the personal data they provide in their user profile. Members can inspect, edit, or remove their personal information at any moment (excluding the unchangeable username). Administrators of the site also have access to this data and can edit it.

Your Data Rights

If you’ve registered on our site or posted comments, you can ask for an exported package of your personal information we have. Furthermore, you can request the deletion of all personal data we hold about you. However, this excludes data we’re mandated to keep for operational, legal, or security purposes.

Data Transfers

Comments from visitors might undergo a review via an automated spam-checking service.
